Entry #9 - Expository essay.

As of 2025, there are approximately 50 countries that have legalized the medical use of Cannabis. In the United States, it has become legal in 39 out of 50 states, and the amount of tax revenue collected from this product has been in the billions. Cannabis has become one of the most prominent alternative medicines in the modern world due to its pain relief benefits, the possibility of growing your own medicine at home, and the minimal side effects in general. Cannabis has been used for thousands of years; in fact, its first documented use dates to 2800 BC when it was listed in the pharmacopoeia of Emperor Shen Nung, who is regarded as the father of Chinese medicine.

The pain relief properties of this plant have been proven in multiple studies and research projects, and it is considered a better alternative than opioids in specific diseases and conditions. For example, a patient undergoing chemotherapy will face a lot of challenges, including hair loss, lack of appetite, and nausea. While Cannabis may not help with the cancer itself, it has been shown to improve the patient's quality of life; patients have reported a gain of appetite, and it is a highly effective treatment for nausea and vomiting. Some mental health conditions can also be managed with Cannabis, such as anorexia, stress, and sleep disorders. Opioids could be a better option depending on the disease; however, they also tend to carry a higher risk of side effects.

Cannabis has been used for millennia, society will not stop using it anytime soon, it is a natural medicine with multiple benefits, its properties has not been fully discovered due to stigma and legislation; however, every day more doctors and scientists understand that this is not only a profitable industry, but also a legitimate form of alternative medicine. It offers hope to individuals suffering from chronic pain, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, and other long-term health conditions. As the interest in the plant continues growing, its research and awareness have been increased in society. Cannabis is on its way to becoming a mainstream medical option, an option that fills with hope thousands of people who don't find the relief they look for in traditional medicine or opioids.
